Constructivism learning approach to be Creative and Enjoy Mathematic


A. Preliminary
'Math is fun', maybe just some people who could say such things. Most people, especially students at the school feel that mathematics is a horrible scourge, they feel that mathematics is a difficult subject and not easy to understand.

Mathematics is the branch of science that is always evolving. Mathematics is also a knowledge that supports the other sciences and is used in everyday life, so naturally we have learned mathematics from primary school. Not only that, the allocation of study time at school Mathematics received an allocation of time than most other subjects. Therefore Mathematics as a science that is very important and should be inculcated and taught as early as possible. Then why still many students who do not like math when math is science important? Assessment will be the difficulty of mathematics by students did not escape of the influence of the people around them, both in school and at home. Teachers who are not fun and sometimes even create confusion in the teaching of mathematics students will further make the students do not like math. Or when the teacher in the school had as much as possible to make love with math students by applying various methods that are currently growing, but in the absence of good communication between teachers and parents at home, can make students' mathematics learning difficulties. And ultimately they do not like math.

If we think deeper, Mathematics is not just arithmetic that has many symbols. Mathematics is a science in which students can explore their abilities, the extent to which students' mindset in dealing with problems. For example, in solving mathematical problems, we can solve a variety of ways depending on the premises the way we construct the problem. The process of thinking it will make students have a creativity that is expected to exist in mathematics and very important in everyday life.
Development of science and technology in the world is getting faster and constantly changing. Only creativity can determine a person's advantage. So is the superiority of a nation, if people have the mindset and high creativity, certainly the achievement of a superior nation will be achieved. In learning mathematics, the ability to think creatively is one focus of learning. Through the learning of mathematics, students are expected to have the ability to think logical, analytical, systematic, critical, and creativity and have the ability to cooperate (MONE, 2004). Therefore, mathematics is a subject that should be preferred by the child to the seeds of our nation that can become a person who has the ability to think creatively and can become a winning nation. In order for a child like math, there needs to be a good approach to learning so that children have no difficulty in learning mathematics and be able to enjoy learning math.

B. Discussion
Abstract learning is learning that uses the ways of abstract thinking, or thinking about things that aren’t concrete (Muhibbin,2002). To learn things that are abstract, intellect and mastery of principles, concepts and generalizations of a problem is necessary to gain an understanding and solving problems that aren’t concrete. Learning mathematics is one of the studying abstract. The number of symbols in mathematics is the abstractness of mathematics. The symbols are representatives of the mathematical concepts that will be more efficient in their use and in learning can facilitate in communicating mathematical ideas. Abstractness of mathematics can be from concrete things that defined by numeric in order to efficiency of the foregoing can be accomplished. Mathematics is very necessary and very useful in everyday life, science, commerce, industry and because mathematics provides a power, a brief communication tool that serves as a tool to describe and to predict. Thus mathematics is a science which is a means of thinking, communicating, a tool to solve many practical problems that the elements of logic and intuition, analysis and construction, generalization and individuality as well as having other branches such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry and analysis. Actually, the essence of learning mathematics is not the result of calculation obtained problem. But the thinking processes of students in solving the problem. So students can practice critical thinking and analytical skills.

Many methods developed at this time allowed students to be creative in learning mathematics. One of them is constructivism, constructivism considers that to learn mathematics is overlooked is how to establish an understanding of the student or students form a mindset in dealing with problems. In here, teacher only as a facilitator and the emphasis is on children's learning process.

Constructivist experts reveal that learning mathematics involves active manipulation of meaning rather than just numbers and formulas only (JICA,2001). Each stage of learning involves a process study of the meaning and delivery of rote skills in a way that there is no guarantee that students will use math skills in the setting their intelligence. Students learn mathematics is not just knowing or memorizing formulas out of hand, but students also need to be able to find out why and how the formula is there. Why and how the formula was proved and can be answered by linking with concept or knowledge they get previously.
Constructivist approach to learning mathematics with such students are asked to prove that to find the sides in a right triangle can use Pythagoras formula a2 + b2 = c2 where a and b are right-angled sides and c is the hypotenuse. Students can construct by using the knowledge they already have before, as vast areas of square and triangle. Students can make a right-angled triangle with the same size but with a different shape or placement.

Then from the image students prepare four triangles forming a square as shown:

Then the students can see that in the large square, smaller square contained therein. From these images the students can count on each side by utilizing the extensive knowledge and broad triangular square that was they could previous. From results of these, students can find out the truth that Pythagoras formula is a2 + b2 = c2.

C.Conclusion
from this paper, we can know that it needs a good approach learning to enhance the delight of students towards mathematics. One of the approach learning is constructivist. In constructivism students can explore the issues they face in accordance with the construction of their own mine or from the knowledge that they could have before. Teachers are not allowed to justify or condemn what they have constructed. Teacher is only as a facilitator, guiding them. In constructivist learning students' creativity is in need. To construct problem students should be able to think critically and creatively.
